Pressure mounted on the Centre after the Jan 5 meeting with members of 8 parties of Andhra Pradesh. While Chidambaram implored politicians to restore peace and normalcy in a strife-torn Andhra Pradesh, our leaders were quick to take offence at what was perceived as the Centre’s unwillingness to rake quick decisions.
KCR yesterday met the Home Minister but the meeting was largely inconclusive. Interestingly, the TRS chief has been maintaining an uncharacteristic silence ever since the Jan 5 meeting.
PRP president Chiranjeevi was also among those who individually met Chidambaram yesterday. Chiranjeevi sounded alarms over Tollywood’s likeliness to leave Hyderabad for Chennai. The former megastar told the press that he had apprised the Home Minister of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, and also of the violence against people of the film industry.
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas criticized Chiranjeevi for raking up the Tollywood matter when there was enough proof that no one from the movie industry was going anywhere.
The Centre might set up a panel to hold consultations with stakeholders of the Telangana issue, but no formal announcement has been made yet in this regard. A statement might be issued today, reports suggest.
