Union Health Minister and In-Charge Of State Congress Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Sunday, said that the Telangana issue would be resolved after the Assembly elections in 5 states.
Azad made this assurance to the TNGOs Association president Swamy Goud, TGOs Association president Srinivas Goud, and other Telangana leaders who met him at Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdary's residence on Sunday morning.
Azad, who came to Hyderabad to attend a meeting of the Congress Coordination Committee, went to Renuka Chowdary's residence for breakfast.
The Telangana leaders were accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha.
During the meeting, Swamy Goud appealed to Azad to prevail upon Congress president Sonia Gandhi to introduce the Bill on a separate Telangana in the ensuing Budget session of Parliament.
Later, talking to media persons, Swamy Goud said he had urged Azad to take steps towards the formation of Telangana by introducing the Telangana bill.
He said that the government should honour its promise made to the people in the region without further delay.
Goud warned the government of serious consequences if it fails to introduce the Telangana bill during the budget session.
"Compared to the Sakala Janula Samme, this time, the agitation will be more intense," he said.
Stating that several students and people had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Telangana, he said, "We don't want any other alternative to the formation of a Telangana state. It is only through the creation of a separate state that the people of Telangana region will get justice."
Azad assured Swamy Goud that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would focus all her attention on resolving the Telangana issue after the completion of the Assembly elections in the 5 states. (INN)
