Telangana Press Academy Chairman Allam Narayana today said that the state government has recently released Rs 17.50 crore towards the welfare of the journalists in the state, and that IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao would officially hand over the funds at a program to be held at Jala Vihar on March 7.
Narayana added that with this latest addition to the academy's welfare fund for journalists, the fund now had Rs 52 crore. The state government reportedly aims to collect a total of Rs 100 crore for the same.
Expressing his gratitude to the government, he said that the aid would help the press academy take substantive welfare measures for the journalist community in Telangana.
The funds were released after Narayana apprised KTR about the need to extend monetary help to ailing journalists. The minister immediately assured him that the government would support the effort, and would also address all the other issues being faced by the state's journalists soon.
The Telangana Press Academy has been actively involved in fighting for the rights of the scribes in the state and takes many initiatives to help the community. Last year, it set up a fund to help the journalists affected by Covid-19, and gave Rs 20,000 each to those who tested positive, and Rs 10,000 each to those observing home quarantine.
