Phone-Tapping Case: 14-Day Jail For 3 Police Officers
3 senior police officers have been sent to 14-day judicial custody in the case of the phone-tapping of opposition leaders during the previous BRS regime.
In connection with the case of the alleged phone-tapping of opposition political leaders and businessmen during the previous BRS regime, former DSP of the SIB Praneeth Rao, and two Additional Superintendents of Police Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the Nampally criminal court.
While Praneeth Rao was arrested on March 11, Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna were arrested on Saturday midnight. Both of the latter underwent medical examination at Gandhi Hospital early in the morning, and were then produced in court.
After the completion of formalities, the court remanded the accused to 14 days in judicial custody.
The Panjagutta police have shifted them to the Chanchalguda jail.
The accused police officials allegedly misused their official positions and conspired to destroy evidence of their "illegal" activities. They are accused of putting private persons under unauthorised surveillance and misusing their powers with politically biased intentions.
