The Telangana government has finally given its nod for a wage hike for the employees of temples.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao signed the relevant file on Thursday after the Finance Ministry cleared it, and asked the officials to issue a GO in this regard. Endowments Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said that the GO would be released in a day or two.
The decision paves the way for the implementation of the 10th Pay Revision Commission recommendations for 2,365 employees working in 370 temples.
Reddy said that the government's decision would burden the exchequer by Rs. 4.5 crores each year. The Government was currently spending some Rs 10 crores on these employees, and the fresh hike would put the expenditure at some Rs 15 crores, he said.
The minister also said that the government would spend 30% of the revenues of the Endowments department on salaries to the staff.
