The CCS Balanagar and Jeedimetla police today arrested a notorious inter-State gang involved in ATM gas-cutting thefts and recovered stolen property worth Rs 20 lakh.
This includes Rs 17 lakh in cash and four stolen two-wheelers valued at Rs 3 lakh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Yasib Hussain alias Asif Haarun Khan, a native of Palwal district, Haryana
- Aamir Aansri from Hyderabad
- Md Abed from Nuh district, Haryana
On the intervening night of July 8 and 9, 2025, between 2:30 am and 3:30 am, unknown offenders broke into an HDFC ATM located at Markandeya Nagar under the Jeedimetla police station limits. They used gas cutters to breach the ATM machine and stole Rs 34.71 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene. A case was registered at the Jeedimetla PS.
The gang is known for carrying out multiple ATM thefts across various States. They operated during the midnight to avoid public detection. Before committing any offence, the members used to split into smaller groups, conduct reconnaissance to target isolated ATMs - especially those with external shutters - and procure gas cylinders and cutting tools from nearby shops for the planned break-ins. Upon arriving at the ATM location, they would disable the CCTVs by cutting wires, use gas cutters to break open the ATM.
Before each crime they would steal two-wheelers for transport, and after the crime they would flee on the stolen bikes and abandon the vehicles to evade tracking.
In the latest case, the stolen vehicle used during the theft was later found abandoned in the Gummadidala PS limits. The gang then stole more two-wheelers in Kamareddy and travelled to Adilabad, where they again abandoned the vehicles. From there they split into two teams and escaped by boarding trucks, eventually returning to their native States.
Acting under the guidance of senior officers, the CCS Balanagar and Jeedimetla police teams analyzed footage from over 500 CCTV cameras along possible escape routes. By using the modus operandi to look through known offender databases, they successfully identified and arrested the accused.
