Union Health Minister and In-charge of State Congress Affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday categorically ruled out the possibilities of the centre resolving the Telangana issue in the near future.
Talking to reporters at the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee's office at M J Market Road, Azad admitted that Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao had met several leaders in New Delhi, and that he had put forth his suggestions on how to resolve the Telangana issue.
However, Azad said that KCR's suggestions were still being studied by the Congress High Command, and that a decision would be taken later.
He reiterated that the centre has neither taken any decision on Telangana nor has it given any assurance to any leader or organisation over the matter.
Accepting that Telangana is a serious issue, Azad said that there were at least 8 similar demands for the creation of smaller states across the country, including in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
He said that the centre would be required to take a balanced decision with regard to demands for statehood, while keeping in view their implications. Therefore, there was no possibility of an immediate decision on the Telangana issue, he said.
Speaking about dengue cases, Azad said that the issue was thoroughly discussed during a health ministers' conference in Chennai on Friday. He said all states have been asked to submit their requirements, and that the centre was ready to provide all assistance to prevent and control the outbreak of dengue and other viral diseases across the country.
