To mount pressure on the Centre to announce a road map for the formation of a Telangana state, Communist Party Of India (CPI) state secretary K Narayana, on Saturday, launched a 2-day Telangana "Praja Poru Yatra" at Palvancha in Khammam district.
Addressing the gathering after flagging off the Poru yatra, Narayana demanded that the Congress announce its stand on the statehood issue immediately.
Accusing the Centre of trying to evade the subject while claiming that it was waiting for a consensus, he said that the Centre wants to cheat the people of the region once again.
Narayana also criticised the state government for its failure to supply 7 hours of quality power to the farmers in the region.
Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram demanded that the government table a bill on Telangana in Parliament and fulfill its promise made to the people by union Home minister P Chidambaram.
MLAs K Sambasiva Rao, Gunda Mallesh, Chandravathi and employees union leader Srinivas Goud took part in the yatra.
The yatra will pass through Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medak, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad, and conclude in Warangal on September 3. (INN)
