Upping the ante against the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, the TRS MPs today staged a protest near Parliament demanding that the former take an immediate decision to bifurcate the Hyderabad High Court into two High Courts, one for Telangana and another for Andhra Pradesh.
Holding placards and raising slogans for a speedy division of the High Court, the MPs, including B Vinod Kumar, Jithender Reddy, Balka Suman, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and others, expressed displeasure over the Centre dragging its feet over the issue.
As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the existing High Court should have been bifurcated to give one High Court each for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to enable them to function smoothly, but no move has been made in this direction yet.
The TRS leaders held Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu responsible for the inordinate delay.
They also accused AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of obstructing the High Court's division.
If the two Naidus exerted pressure on the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would not hesitate to take a decision, they claimed, and shouted slogans against the Centre for not being able to take a decision on the contentious issue.
"We will continue to stall the proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament until the Centre takes a decision," they warned. "We are not afraid of any action by the Centre, which ought to take a final call."
The TRS leaders also made it clear that they would seek another court if the existing one was allotted to the AP.
"Let the Centre and Union Law Ministry take a final call, and we will abide by it," they added. (NSS)
