In a significant development, Telangana CM and TRS boss K Chandrashekar Rao today decided to get his MPs to pipe down in Parliament amidst allegations by the Telugu Desam Party that the TRS MPs were coming in the way of the introduction of a No-Confidence Motion in Parliament over the issue of Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.
As per KCR's directive, the TRS MPs will continue their protests, but without going into the well of the House. They will raise their voices in Parliament during the budget session for their quota demand, but without hampering the chances of a no-confidence motion being taken up.
If a debate becomes unavoidable on the no-trust move in Parliament, the TRS MPs will take a decision based on the situation.
KCR convened a meeting at Pragathi Bhavan with party MPs A P Jithender Reddy, K Keshava Rao, K Kavitha, Vinod Kumar, Balka Suman and Prabhakar Reddy. He directed them to act strategically during the no-trust motion debate.
For those new to the issue, the TRS is on the war path in Parliament for 10% quota for Scheduled Tribes and 12% quota for Muslims in Telangana.
Interestingly, KCR is learnt to have decided to back down as the TDP and the YSR Congress Party are making allegations that the TRS is coming in the way of a no-confidence motion being introduced. Keshava Rao and Jithender Reddy told the media that the TRS had been protesting for the quotas much before the YSRCP and the TDP decided to introduce a no-confidence move.
"We have no intention to let the BJP escape a no-confidence move, and will not thwart a debate," they said. "We will not hold placards and will refrain from going into the well to protest for the quota."
