TRS MPs Slam Centre In LS For Delaying HC Division
Hyderabad | 4th August 2015
TRS Members of Parliament on Tuesday lambasted the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for "deliberately" delaying the creation of a separate High Court for the newly-born Telangana state.
Making a vociferous demand in the Lok Sabha for the setting up of a separate High Court for Telangana as enshrined in the A P Reorganization Act, TRS MPs Jitender Reddy and B Vinod said that denying the new state its own High Court was tantamount to blatant constitutional violation.
Even as other party colleagues of his raised slogans for justice to Telangana in this regard, the two MPs said that the TRS would not rest till a Telangana High Court was constituted, and warned that any wanton delay in the matter would lead to serious repercussions.
While trying to pacify the TRS members, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu said that the Law Ministry was seriously engaged in resolving the issue at the earliest after examining all aspects in the matter.
Naidu agreed out that it was imperative that each state have its own High Court. He assured the MPs that the Union government was committed to fulfilling its assurance to set up a Telangana High Court.
Earlier, speaking on the issue in the Lok Sabha, Jitender Reddy recalled that when Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal were formed separate High Courts were set up within one week, and wondered why there was such an inordinate delay in the matter of the setting up a separate High Court for Telangana.
Pointing out that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had addressed a letter to the Centre in this regard, and that TRS ministers, MPs and MLAs had called on the Union Law Minister many times, Reddy wondered why the matter had been put in cold storage for so long.
These deliberate delaying tactics would only boomerang on the BJP-led government at the Centre, he warned.
