A city court in Rangareddy district today awarded a death sentence to Dinesh Kumar Dharne, a migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh, who was accused of the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl at Narsingi in December, 2017.
A Metropolitan Sessions Judge, B Suresh Babu, found him guilty of the crimes - Dinesh was convicted under Sections 363, 366, 376(A), 302 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 5, read with 6, of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (2012) for kidnapping, rape and murder.
Dinesh knew the child as her parents worked at the same construction site in the Cyberabad commissionerate area as him.
On the day of the incident, the accused worker, who was a 23-year-old at the time, saw the child playing outside her parents' accommodation. Being known to the child, he was able to easily lure her away on the pretext of giving her chocolates, and took her to a kirana store nearby. The accused then led his victim into some bushes, and raped her twice. To prevent the parents from finding out, he bludgeoned her to death.
When the parents realised that the child had gone missing, they lodged a complaint at the Narsingi police station. In the ensuing investigation, Dinesh confessed to both his bone-chilling crimes.
After his arrest, he was tried at the L B Nagar court.
