Additional District & Sessions Judge T Venkata Haranath on Monday awarded the death sentence to one Mohammed Rafi in the case of the rape and murder in Chittoor of a six-year-old girl, which took place in November 2019.
This was the first execution under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the district.
The judge said that the verdict would be forwarded to the High Court, which would decide the date of the execution.
The girl was raped and murdered by the convict in Chittoor district when she went to a wedding party in Korabalakota along with her parents on November 7, 2019.
After she went missing at around 10 pm, her body was found behind some bushes near the wedding hall the next day. Her clothes were partly removed from her body and there were scratches on her face. Some empty liquor bottles were also found near the body. Her post-mortem confirmed that she was raped.
