Telangana Mahila Congress leaders including former union minister Renuka Chowdhury, former State minister Geeta Reddy, party leaders Padmavathi Reddy and Nirmala Jagga Reddy, and State Mahila Congress president Sunitha Rao today met Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and told her that her Praja Darbar and Mahila Darbars were good initiatives.
Speaking to media persons later, Chowdhury expressed concern over the "growing number of crimes against women" in the State, including rapes, and said that the delegation had submitted a representation to the Governor complaining about the law and order situation in Telangana.
She also asked Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao why he was not reacting on the crimes.
Geeta Reddy too alleged that the powers-that-be of the State were not taking action against the crimes being committed against women, and that the government and the police system had failed miserably in Telangana. She said that the delegation had specifically raised the issue of the gang-rape of a minor in Jubilee Hills recently, and that it had urged the Governor to take action on the issue.
