Congress leaders from Telangana on Sunday stated that the Srikrishna Commission Report's recommendations would not be accepted if they went against their interests, and threatened resignations en-masse from their posts.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of a meeting convened at New MLA Quarters at Adarsh Nagar, Congress Working Committee member and senior Telangana leader K Kesava Rao called on all Telangana leaders to get ready to sacrifice their posts if the panel report recommended an integrated state.
Kesava Rao stated that the Congress leaders would mount pressure on centre and party President Sonia Gandhi by submitting their resignations en-mass. The CWC member also said that the party would be wiped out from the region if it did not stand by the promise on the formation of Telangana state.
Kesava Rao, however, did not say why the leaders from the Congress or any other party were quiet when the Panel was set up if they were not ready to accept its findings.
The CWC member also questioned the rationale behind bringing 18 companies of
paramilitary forces from the centre to maintain law and order. He asked the centre to immediately withdraw the forces from the state as the Telangana leaders had decided to launch a non-violent agitation for separate statehood. This agitation would be on the lines of a 'non-cooperation' movement.
The meeting also passed a resolution demanding lifting of police cases against all students and agitators immediately. He said the Telangana leaders gave a deadline of December 26th to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy when he was in New Delhi to lift the police cases, but the government only announced partial lifting of cases on students, he pointed out.
If the government did not come out with concrete decision on total lifting of cases on students by evening, the MPs from Telangana region would sit-in for indefinite hunger strike at Telangana Martyrs Memorial Statue, Gun Park, from Monday, he warned.
The meeting also asked the Seemandhra leaders not to test the patience of Telangana leaders by issuing emotional statements which hurt the sentiments of Telangana people.
Ministers Jupalli Krishna Rao, K Jana Reddy, Basavaraju Saraiah, Sridhar Babu, DK Aruna, Sunitha Lakshma Reddy and P Shankar Rao, MPs, MLAs and MLCs, DCC presidents and other office bearers took part in the meeting.
