Chidambaram, Shinde To Be Booked Under Section 420

The directions were issued by the Ranga Reddy district court following a petition moved by Telangana lawyers stating that Shinde and Chidambaram have cheated the people of "the region".

The Ranga Reddy district court on Monday directed the LB Nagar police station to register a cheating case against Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

The directions were issued following a petition moved by Telangana lawyers stating that Shinde and Chidambaram have cheated the people of "the region". The petitioner stated that while Chidambaram went back on his promise of initiating the process of the formation of the Telangana state on 9 December 2009, Shinde did not fulfill the promise of announcing the Telangana decision within one month of holding the all-party meeting on 28 December last year. He said that, by not fulfilling their promises, both the leaders have cheated the people of the Telangana region.

The court directed the police register a case of cheating under Section 420 against Chidambaram and Shinde. (INN)
