Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today saw off the chadar (gilaf) to be presented in the state's name at the Ajmer Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on the occasion of the famed Sufi poet-saint's 809th Urs celebrations.
The chadar, specially designed for the Urs celebrations, was presented to the CM by the elders of the Muslim community in the state. During their meeting with him, the elders offered special prayers for the well-being of the people of Telangana, and for unending prosperity in the state.
KCR also conveyed his greetings to Telangana's Muslim fraternity on the occasion.
Telangana Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Wakf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem, MLCs Mohammad Fareeduddin and Farooq Hussain, MLA Mohammad Shakeel, TRS Minority Cell Chairman Khaja Mujeebuddin, MIM leader Mufti Sayyed Yousuf and Corporator Baba Fasiuddin were present for the meeting.
Many other prominent Indian politicians have also offered chadars at the shrine for the celebrations - while Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi offered a chadar on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's behalf, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were among the others to offer chadars in honour of the saint.
In a significant public articulation of the relationship between Afghanistan and India, Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also sent a chadar for the Urs celebrations at Ajmer Sharif.
