Telangana Leader Kavitha Arrested
Telangana Jagruti president Kavitha was arrested while staging a dharna in Serilingampally, protesting the GHMC's demolitions of illegal constructions.
Tension prevailed at Khanamet village in Serilingampally mandal on Monday, during a drive to demolish illegal constructions.
The demolition drive is being by the Town Planning Wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Revenue Department.
Telangana Jagruti president Kavitha staged a dharna on the road, demanding that the illegal structures constructed by VIPs be demolished first and then the poor and middle class be targeted.
However, Kavitha's protest was cut short by the police, when they arrested her and shifted her to the Madhapur police station under tight security.
The Municipal Corporation had, earlier, taken visual evidence in the form of photographs of the ongoing constructions on the land allotted to the Gurukul Ghatkesar Trust during the NDA rule. The evidence was captured using the GHMC's Off Site Real Time (OSRT).
The OSRT had revealed that several structures were being raised by plot owners illegally.
Despite an order by the state High Court order stopping new constructions on the land allotted to the Gurukul Trust and Ayyappa Cooperative Housing Society at Khanamet village in Serilingampally mandal, the spate of constructions has continued, with reports of over a 100 new buildings coming up illegally in the past year.
According to reports, local MLA Bhikshapati Yadav tried to stop the demolitions by approaching Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. However Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed his helplessness, saying that the High Court's orders were being followed. (INN)
