Rs 1,148 Cr Contracts Given Without Tenders: Kavitha

Telangana Jagruthi president K Kavitha today levelled serious allegations of corruption against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the Congress government.

Speaking to the media at her party office, she accused the Chief Minister of turning the GHMC into a hub of corruption.

She alleged that contracts worth crores were being awarded to his associates without inviting tenders.

The Jagruthi leader said that while the previous BRS government had awarded works worth Rs 480 crore in a similar corrupt manner, the current government expanded it to Rs 1,148 crore.

Kavitha claimed that contracts worth Rs 1,148 crore were awarded on a nomination basis to the Chief Minister's associates, bypassing the mandatory tender process for works exceeding Rs 5 lakh.

She said that this was a direct violation of the Telangana State Financial Code and ignored the recommendations of a 2023 committee that advised against non-tender contracts.

She demanded the immediate cancellation of such contracts and insisted that they be awarded only through a proper tendering process.

Kavitha also criticised the functioning of the administration within the GHMC and HMDA. She added that the government had sold land worth Rs 35,000 crore under HMDA but had failed to spend even a rupee on the actual development of Hyderabad.

She also accused the Chief Minister of using HYDRA to harass real estate developers, alleging that they were being pressured to pay Rs 150 per square foot. She warned the govenment that if the "extortion" did not stop, she would file a formal complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Jagruthi president also welcomed the government's move to repair the Kaleshwaram Project but cautioned that it should not be done for commissions.
