HYDRAA today demolished five under-construction multi-storey buildings in Mailardevpally village, Rangareddy district, saving government property worth Rs 100 crore.
It cleared the illegal structures on land allocated for a playground in a 188-acre HUDA-approved layout. It also removed two single-room structures.
According to the layout, which has more than 1,800 plots, 6,500 square yards of land was allocated for the playground. Despite this, local squatters had been selling plots through notary agreements for the past three years.
The construction was also being carried out without any permission. GHMC had issued notices earlier and also passed speaking orders in 2024 stating that the site would be demolished. However, construction continued unabated, prompting locals to complain to HYDRAA.
The officials inspected the site along with GHMC and revenue authorities, and confirmed that it was earmarked for a sports ground as per the layout. HYDRAA then issued warnings and removed the encroachments this morning.
Residents of Shastripuram Colony expressed relief as the sports ground was reclaimed. They welcomed the swift action by HYDRAA and said that they had earlier faced intimidation when they tried to resist the encroachments.
