Telangana Congress Steering Committee Chairman K Kesava Rao on Monday stated that Congress MPs from Telangana would take "harsh decisions" if the Centre announces any decision on Telangana that is "unfavourable".
Talking to media persons after a meeting of Congress MPs from the region held at MP Komatireddy Rajagopal's residence, Kesava Rao said that the MPs would not agree for any kind of financial package, regional councils or the establishment of a second States Reorganisation Commission to resolve the Telangana issue.
They would not agree to any alternative other than statehood for the region, he said. He called upon leaders to be ready to sacrifice anything for the cause of Telangana statehood.
Kesava Rao said that the MPs would demand the introduction of a Telangana bill, and would stage protests in New Delhi when the winter session of Parliament begins on 22 November 22.
If the Centre fails to announce a decision on Telangana during the Parliament session, Telangana MPs would submit their resignations and go in for fresh elections if needed, he said.
Bhongir MP Rajagopal said that there are no differences among Congress MPs over the statehood issue as being reported in a section of media. He said that the media must not create differences among MPs.
In the meeting, the MPs decided to appeal to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to announce a decision on Telangana in the Parliament session. The meeting discussed threadbare the statement of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh that consensus is needed to take a decision on Telangana.
The MPs also discussed the strategy to be adopted in the event of the Centre announcing an unfavourable stand on Telangana statehood. (INN)
