Demanding the introduction of a Telangana Bill in the budget session of Parliament, activists of the Communist Party of India on Monday picketed the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district Collectorates.
Raising slogans against the Centre for "resorting to delaying tactics" after the submission of the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee report, the agitators demanded the bifurcation of the State into Telangana and Seemandhra as per existing boundaries with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana, based on the 5th option given by the panel.
The activists, under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Aziz Pasha, staged a demonstration and demanded that the ruling party table the Telangana bill in Parliament.
Aziz Pasha urged the Centre to come out with a clear stand on the separate statehood issue, and added that the union government should not link the issue of state formation with the recommendations given by the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee in its report.
The CPI leader also took exception to the recent verdict of the Krishna Disputes Waters Tirbunal, and termed the judgment 'unfair'.
He said the judgment will put Andhra Pradesh's farmers in the doldrums and turn the Krishna delta into a desert soon.
Aziz Pasha asked the state government to file a review petition before the Tribunal after consulting all-party leaders and irrigation experts, to protect the interests of farmers.
He also expressed concern over the government's failure on checking the rising prices of essential commodities.
Meanwhile, reports say the CPI cadre has also intensified its protests across the Telangana region.
The CPI activists staged dharnas and rasta rokos elsewhere, across the state, as well.
