Yadaiah, the student who
set himself afire yesterday in the Osmania University purportedly for the Telangana separate statehood cause, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday.
Apprehensive of a backlash from the student community, the police swiftly shifted his body to his native Nagaram village in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, after an autopsy.
Yadaiah(/Yadayya) was an orphan working in a canteen, and in the suicide note recovered from his bag, had written that he was hopeful that he would get a job in a newly-created Telangana state, but that he was killing himself since separate statehood did not appear to be happening. He was an Intermediate drop-out.
His body has been visited by the OU JAC leaders and some politicians, and will be cremated today.
The self-immolation episode has provided a boost to the OU student movement that appeared to be losing momentum after the Srikrishna Committee was announced. Student leaders had a fresh reason to galvanize the rank-and-file, and this was seen as fresh violence broke out between the students and the police after the immolation. Some T MLAs are also seeing their houses surrounded by students who want them to resign.
