Telangana Has A Dadasaheb Phalke Winner
Telangana ministers V Srinivas Goud and G Kamalakar today paid rich tributes to yesteryear Bollywood actor Paidi Jairaj, a Hindi film hero from Karimnagar district.
Okay, that was clickbait. As in, the state indeed has a winner, but from decades back, and one that you most unlikely were unaware of.
Telangana ministers V Srinivas Goud and G Kamalakar today paid rich tributes to yesteryear Bollywood actor Paidi Jairaj, a Hindi film hero from Karimnagar district.
The state government conducted a program at Ravindra Bharathi in the city to commemorate the work of Jairaj in the Hindi film industry.
The event was conducted to mark the 111th birth anniversary of Jairaj.
A Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, Jairaj was the first Telangana actor to get a name for himself in the Hindi film field, the ministers said.
Speaking on the occasion, they claimed that in the combined state the Andhra rulers had ignored Telangana artists and literary talent. Jairaj had served the Hindi movie field in a stellar fashion, but successive governments in united Andhra Pradesh never bothered to recognize him, they said.
However the TRS government was giving due importance and paying tributes to such personalities, with the Telangana language and culture department conducting the birth and death anniversaries of such luminaries, they said.
