Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today greeted the people of the state on the eve of the seventh International Yoga Day, which is observed on June 21.
In a message, she said, "I extend my heartiest wishes to all on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga 2021, an event celebrated all over the world. Yoga is an integral part of our rich ancient Indian heritage and has immense potential in enhancing the physical, psychological, and emotional wellbeing of practitioners. Yoga helps in achieving a much-required balance of mind, body, and soul."
The Governor reiterated that the regular practice of Yoga helped in the "perfect union of body and mind" and contributed positively to the physical, mental, and spiritual wellness and health of those who practiced it, and added, "The Covid-19 pandemic situation has once again highlighted the need for developing good immunity to fight infections so as to keep ourselves healthy. Immunity can be easily achieved by the regular practice of Yoga. In fact, regular Yoga even helps in fighting various infections in the long run. The theme for this year's Yoga Day celebrations is 'Yoga for Wellbeing', which aptly highlights the role of Yoga in ensuring the wellbeing of all. I appeal to everyone to celebrate Yoga Day by duly following all the Covid-appropriate behaviours and norms. I urge you to continue your practice of yoga. This will keep you active and agile, both mentally and physically."
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in making "this national tradition an international event", Soundararajan lauded his success in getting the United Nations General Assembly to unanimously agree to declare June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
