Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao today promised the farmers of the state that the TRS government would waive their farm loans very soon.
He made these remarks after inaugurating the new Mulugu branch of the Union Bank of India (UBI), situated on the premises of the Konda Lakshman Horticulture University.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that he had asked the banks in the state to extend their cooperation to the beneficiaries of the Rythu Bandhu and the Aasara schemes.
Rao added that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was committed to developing Mulugu, and was devising a plan to transform the region's Forest College and Research Institute into a full-fledged university. He then turned to the UBI management and told them to set up an ATM on the premises of the forest institute for the benefit of the students studying there.
Last month, financial aid was
provided to 63 lakh farmers in Telangana under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. A total of Rs 7,500 crore was spent on this.
Reports say that this time, an additional 66,000 acres of farmland and an additional 2.18 lakh farmers benefited from the program. While Nalgonda got the lion's share of the funds, about Rs 608 crore, Medchal-Malkajgiri district got the lowest share of Rs 38 crore.
