As the State government prepares to present the P C Ghose Commission report in the Assembly session starting August 30, the BRS legislators have urged Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to permit a detailed presentation by them on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project during the session.
A group of BRS members, including Whip K P Vivekananda and MLA D Sudheer Reddy, met the Speaker and submitted a formal request on the matter.
They said that as the main opposition party the BRS had a responsibility to provide the public with accurate information on issues crucial to Telangana's welfare. They alleged that false information was being circulated about the project, which they described as a lifeline for the State that could eliminate drought and enable irrigation across vast stretches of farmland. They argued that the party should therefore be given the opportunity to present a step-by-step overview of the project's construction, technical aspects and benefits.
"Considering the Assembly's established practice of permitting presentations, the main opposition too should be granted a fair opportunity to place its information before the House," the delegation said.
The party also expressed concern over efforts by the Union government and the Andhra Pradesh government to "undermine" Telangana's rights to the Godavari waters through the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla interlinking project.
