Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday came down heavily on the State government "for not following the protocol and for humiliating her everywhere".
Speaking to the media at Raj Bhavan on the completion of three years in office, Soundararajan said that she was the first citizen of the State and should be respected as per the Constitution. Unfortunately, the State government had forgotten to give respect to the chair of Governor, and was moreover humiliating her everywhere by denying her the protocol due to the position, she lamented.
"Today I am the Governor of the State. Tomorrow another person will be in the chair. But the respect should be given to the Chair and it has always been the case. That's what I am expecting from the government," Soundararajan said.
The Governor also hit out at the poor infrastructure in the government hospitals in the State. She said that she had observed during her visits that many hospitals lacked even basic facilities, and that the people were losing faith in the public health institutions.
Referring to the incident of the Director of the prestigious NIMS who preferred a private hospital for treatment for his heart ailment, she said that one could imagine the pathetic condition of government hospitals in Telangana just from that example.
"All elected representatives and public servants should go only to government hospitals when they need treatment. Only then will the people have confidence on the facilities in government hospitals," Soundararajan said.
Referring to the education system next, the Governor said that many universities were being run with inadequate faculty, and that the education standards were declining by the day in these institutions.
She reiterated that she would continue interacting with people from different walks of life in the days to come, and would extend all the possible help to those in need with her powers despite not having cooperation from the State government.
"Whatever I am doing is to serve the people. There is no personal motive behind it. I will listen to the voices of all sections of people, and will work selflessly," Soundararajan said.
