The Telangana government has given permission for the prosecution of MIM MLA and floor leader in the Telangana Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi in another case filed against him.
The State government issued orders to this effect on Thursday, apparently in response to the High Court hearing a public interest litigation against its "inaction" in the matter.
The case in question is the one over the "hate" speech that the MLA made in Nirmal of the Adilabad district allegedly poking fun at and insulting the Hindu religion. (Owaisi has many criminal cases against him, as also does his elder brother Asaduddin Owaisi.)
Earlier this month the State government also gave permission for the prosecution of Akbaruddin Owaisi in other cases registered in other police stations.
The Nirmal speech had caused widespread outrage in India for its reportedly highly incendiary content (the speech has since been removed from the public domain / Internet), and Owaisi was jailed for several days before coming out on bail.
The actions of the Telangana government are also being seen as a response to the MIM increasingly targeting the TRS government over its policies and over its supposed inaction in the Rohith Vemula case.
