The Telangana government today vehemently condemned the Krishna River Water Board Management's issuing a notification on water sharing between AP and Telangana, alleging it hampered the State's interests.
Reacting to the Board's releasing the notification, Roads and Buildings Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao today firmly opposed it.
"The Board has taken a unilateral decision, and we did not give our version to the Board," he said. "The Telangana government opposes the Krishna Board decision completely, and will talk to the Centre. Any decision should be within the framework of the Constitution."
His statement came at a time when the Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao had deferred his Delhi trip at the behest of Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti in this regard. Harish Rao however is leaving for Delhi on Monday, taking a high-level delegation with him.
It may be said here that after a meeting with Harish Rao, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya had also called up Uma Bharti and urged her to stop the Board from releasing the notification.
Thummala slammed the Andhra Pradesh government for its persistent efforts to stall Telangana's irrigation projects. Telangana was not against AP's projects like Polavaram, he pointed out. And his government was not averse to holding talks with Andhra Pradesh on projects, he said.
"There is a need for cooperation among the two Telugu States for development. Our efforts are on to expedite the projects despite the obstacles being created by the Andhra Pradesh government," Thummala said.
