BRS Assembly Boycott Helped Congress Lie: K Kavitha

The BRS outcast claimed that the Assembly boycott weakened the opposition's capability to question the Congress' falsehoods.
Hyderabad | 4th January 2026
Telangana Jagruthi President K Kavitha today alleged that the ongoing Assembly session was witnessing serious democratic lapses, with the absence of the main opposition allowing the ruling Congress government to make false and misleading statements.

Speaking to the media in Suryapet, Kavitha also said that despite announcing a discussion on the Krishna river waters sharing, the government had failed to hold a comprehensive debate involving all stakeholder States.

She strongly criticised the Telangana government for maintaining silence on Karnataka's decision to increase the height of the Almatti dam, which could result in Telangana losing nearly 100 TMC of water. Kavitha demanded that the Telangana Assembly immediately pass resolutions opposing the Almatti height increase and the national status granted to the Upper Bhadra project.

Kavitha also asked why water allocations for the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Narayanpet-Kodangal projects were reduced, and who approved the reduction in Telangana's water share. She sought clear answers on agreements that allegedly reduced Telangana's share by 3% and on the shifting of intake points from Jurala to Srisailam.

The Jagruthi president accused both the Congress government and the BRS leadership of indulging in political drama, and claimed that the Assembly boycott weakened the opposition's responsibility to question the Congress' falsehoods. She asked whether the boycott decision was taken personally by former minister Harish Rao or by the BRS high command, and said that abandoning the Assembly debate was a serious political mistake.

Kavitha also raised serious allegations of corruption, land encroachments, infrastructure neglect, illegal sand mining, incomplete irrigation projects, drinking water shortages, pollution of the Krishna river and misuse of public funds in Suryapet district. She demanded immediate administrative action on these issues.

She said that she had no personal grudge against any leader and that her fight was only against corruption, which deprived people of their rightful benefits and weakened democracy.

She acknowledged mistakes made during the previous BRS government, and said that leaders needed to accept responsibility and correct past errors. She reiterated that she resigned from her MLC post on moral grounds and would continue to raise people's issues fearlessly through Telangana Jagruthi.

Kavitha also said that she would continue her district-wise tours, engage directly with the people, and speak out against large-scale corruption irrespective of political consequences. She said that the future of Telangana needed to be built on accountability, transparency and public interest.
