Over 1.50 lakh loan eligibility cards (LEC) will be issued to licensed farmers in the Telangana region from July 20 to 25.
Hyderabad | 18th July 2011
Following a directive from the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, over 1.50 lakh loan eligibility cards (LEC), which were kept ready, will be issued to licensed farmers in the Telangana region from July 20 to 25.
So far, 5.75 lakh licensed farmers have been identified, and cards were kept ready to be issued, and 3.02 lakh farmers have already received the cards so far.
The government had conducted 28,000 grama sabhas for identifying the farmers among whom the loan eligibility cards were to be distributed.
So far, crop loans worth Rs. 40 crore have been given, and those found eligible for the loans will be issued cards on the current crops produced, informed Revenue Minister N Raghuveera Reddy after attending a review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister at the Secretariat.
The said loans will come under the purview of the 'Paavala Vaddi' scheme as per the CM's directive, he said.
Raghuveera Reddy said the Chief Minister has entrusted the job of coordinating these loans to the Agriculture Department.
Speaking about fake cards, the Minister said that the current loan eligibility cards were fool-proof and that they cannot be duplicated like the way the pattadar pass books were produced in duplicate earlier.
Further, it is the bank's responsibility to check the authenticity of the cards, he said.
When asked about the banks' release of loans, the Minister said, "The act is clear and the bankers expressed their readiness to release loans as stipulated." (INN)
