Farmer Commits Suicide Over Land Acquisition Fears
A 70-year-old farmer from the Pallepahad village of the Medak district took his life over fears of losing his land to the government's Mallanna Sagar project.
A farmer named Bachali Narsaiah (70) from the Pallepahad village in the Thoguta mandal of the Medak district reportedly took his life due to fear of losing his land to the government's "forcible" land acquisition for the Mallanna Sagar reservoir.
Narsaiah was found hanging in his house, family sources said, and added that he was shifted to Gandhi hospital in Secunderabad where he breathed his last.
After being informed by the Thoguta Mandal Revenue Officer that their lands would be acquired and submerged for the proposed 50 TMC reservoir, Narsaiah took his life fearing that any compensation would be insufficient to repay his debt.
