In a compassionate gesture, the family of constable Peddolla Prashanth Reddy, who passed away following an accident, donated his organs to the Jeevan Daan initiative, giving hope to others in need of life-saving transplants.
Reddy, who was stationed at the Kandukuru police station under the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, met with an accident on December 28 while returning home after his duty.
He was struck by an unidentified vehicle at around 10 pm, and sustained severe head injuries that left him unconscious.
Despite being rushed to the Malakpet Yashoda Hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries the next day.
The constable's father Nagi Reddy and wife Soumya then took a decision to donate his liver and kidneys to Jeevan Daan.
Their decision, driven by a desire to save lives despite their immense personal loss, has been lauded as an act of remarkable humanity.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu expressed his appreciation for the family's noble act, and extended his condolences to them for their loss. He assured them of his support and sanctioned Rs 90,000 for the funeral expenses.
The funeral took place in Uppal on December 30, and was attended by Maheshwaram ACP Lakmikantha Reddy and other police personnel.
