Telangana Congress MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at 5:30pm in New Delhi regarding the statehood issue.
Rumours were rife in the political arena regarding the number of ministers invited to communicate with the PM and the subject matter to be discussed by the ministers.
The handful of Telangana Congress MPs in New Delhi spoke to the media a short while ago and clarified certain aspects of their New Delhi trip.
The Congressmen explained that they had received a call from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Wednesday evening, wherein they were informed that the PM would convene a meeting with Telangana leaders.
The Congress had responded by sending a list of 32 Telangana leaders willing to communicate with the PM. However, the PMO had requested them to narrow down the list to 25 ministers, which the state immediately did.
The MPs allege that foul forces had spread rumours that only MPs were invited, and that the contentious Clause 14 (F) was the sole issue that would be discussed, thereby creating a lot of confusion within the party.
As a result, only a couple of MPs had turned up at the airport to fly to New Delhi.
The Congress leaders clarified that 25 ministers were invited and that no specific issue was penciled in as the subject matter - an MP explained that they intend to discuss the Telangana issue in entirety with the PM.
