A day after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that a fresh resolution was needed for the deletion of the controversial Clause 14 F from the Presidential Order of 1975, Congress MPs from Telangana appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take an early decision on the earlier resolution on the issue passed by the state Assembly in 2010.
The MPs met the Prime Minister in the Central Hall of Parliament, and pointed out to him that the statement of the Union Home Minister has triggered off a fresh controversy in the state.
They sought Singh's intervention in the issue, and urged him to delete the controversial clause.
On his part, the Prime Minister heard out the MPs and promised to resolve the issue after discussing it with the officials concerned.
Talking to media persons later, MP Manda Jagannadham disclosed that the Prime Minister had responded favourably to their appeals, and that he had assured the MPs of taking an early decision on their demand.
Manda also revealed that the Prime Minister had told the MPs that he had received a letter from Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in this regard.
The MP opined that there was no point in Chidambaram seeking another resolution to be passed by the House over the issue.
Incidentally, the Telangana MPs continued to keep away from Parliament, and did not attend the second day of the Monsoon Session either. (INN)
