Telangana Congress Monitoring Group organiser G Niranjan on Friday stated that party leaders will brief the high command over the reasons behind the party's
defeat in the recently held Telangana by-elections.
He said that 100 party members from the region will visit New Delhi on August 30, August 31 and September 1, to brief the party high command and present their views on the outcome of the by-elections.
The Congress members will brief UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram, among other leaders of the party.
Niranjan said that the members would urge the high command to take a favourable decision on the Telangana statehood issue. He said that they would make it clear to the Congress leaders they should not be held responsible for any adverse reaction from the people of Telangana region if the report does not go in their favour.
Reacting on the alleged 'anti-national' statements of Seemandhra ministers, he urged the government to register cases against all Telangana leaders on treason charges.
"I will not ask for a suspension of ministers from the Cabinet, or for an apology for their remarks. I want the government to register cases against Telangana leaders on treason charges," he stated.
He said the members would also urge the Prime Minister not to give national status for the Polavaram irrigation project to be constructed on the Godavari, as it would create problems for the state after bifurcation.
