Congress MLA for the Khed constituency in the Medak district Patolla Kishta Reddy died of a stroke this morning at his residence in S R Nagar. He was 67.
He is survived by his wife and four children.
The family members rushed him to a hospital when he did not wake up in the morning, and the doctors declared him brought dead.
Reddy was a four-time MLA. His elder son Sanjeeva Reddy is the Narayankhed MPP.
Kishta Reddy was elected to the Assembly in 1999, 2009 and 2014. A close follower of the late Baga Reddy, he worked as a sarpanch of Panchagama in 1977 and as Narayankhed Samithi president in 1982. He was elected MLA for the first time in 1989 when he was a TTD Trust Board member.
When the Congress denied him an Assembly ticket later, he contested unsuccessfully as an independent candidate.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao expressed grief and conveyed condolences to the bereaved. He praised the services of Kishta Reddy as a legislator and PAC Chairman.
Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao bemoaned the Medak district losing "a great leader". Deputy Speaker Padma Devendar Reddy, too, expressed her grief over the death of Kishta Reddy.
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman K Swamy Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, ministers and others also condoled the death.
