BRS MLA Lasya Nandita Dead After Her Car Rams Road Divider

Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Lasya Nandita (37), of the BRS, passed away today.

The car in which she was travelling met with an accident on the Patancheru ORR in the wee hours of Friday, leading to her death.

It is being reported that the car lost control and hit the divider. Nandita died on the spot. Passersby rushed Nandita and the driver of the car Akash to a local hospital, but the doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The driver of the ill-fated car sustained grievous injuries. The doctors are treating him, and his condition is said to be critical.

It appears that only the driver Akash and Nandita were present in the car at the time of the accident. Locals believe that overspeeding might be the cause of the accident. According to reports, Nandita was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Nandita was born in Hyderabad in 1987, and was the daughter of 5-time MLA late G Sayanna. She completed her B. Tech. in Computer Science, and entered politics in 2015. She contested the Cantonment Board elections and lost. In 2016 she joined the BRS along with Sayanna, and between 2016 and 2020 she served as the Kavadiguda corporator. In the 2021 GHMC elections she lost Kavadiguda, but in the 2023 Assembly elections she was elected as the Cantonment MLA defeating the BJP candidate N Ganesh by a margin of 17,169 votes (she won on a BRS ticket).

Ever since Lasya Nandita won as the BRS MLA of Secunderabad Cantonment, she has been haunted by accidents. She was stuck in a lift in December last year. The lift stopped midway due to overload. The lift doors were broken and Nandita was brought out by the staff. Then, while she was on the way to attend a public meeting of the BRS in Nalgonda on February 14, her car met with an accident. She survived the accident with simple injuries. Ten days after that incident, she died in another accident today.

BRS cadres are shocked by the death of Nandita. Her father Sayanna too had passed away due to illness in February 2023 when he was the Cantonment MLA.
