Reacting to the vituperative comments against Bollywood star Aamir Khan, senior Telangana Congress leader and former Union minister S Jaipal Reddy said that the actor need not issue any clarifications, especially after he had carved a unique niche for himself by playing many patriotic and constructive roles in his films.

In a statement today, Reddy stated, "The wild comments being made on Aamir Khan are shocking but not surprising. They are in conformity with the fanatical culture of the BJP and the Sangh Parvivar. I admire Kiran Rao for expressing her genuine disgust with the prevailing climate of intolerance in the country."

"It is instructive to recall that even before Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Anantha Murthy, Jnanpeeth award winner from Karnataka, had said that he would quit India in case Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. The worst fears of Murthy have come true. The feelings of Kiran Rao are therefore legitimate and natural. Every liberal should laud Aamir Khan's courage of conviction," he added.
