The Telangana Congress today held a Chalo Raj Bhavan condemning the interrogation of party national leader Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the National Herald case.
The program witnessed tense moments. Senior leader Renuka Choudhary argued with the police when she was stopped by them. And when women police surrounded her to apprehend her, she warned the SI on duty that she would beat her at her own police station if she was stopped. She also held the collar of an SI. She warned the police that there would be serious consequences if they touched her. The video of the incident went viral.
Likewise, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka held the collar of West Zone DCP Joel Davis, leading to tense moments.
A large number of Youth Congress leaders and others reached Khairatabad to take part in the program. They also burned a bike at the Khairatabad crossroads, and stopped buses. State Youth Congress leader Anil Kumar Yadav climbed atop a bus and protested. The protest caused a huge traffic jam at the Khairatabad crossroads. The police used barricades to stop the Congress activists and leaders from marching towards the Raj Bhavan.
Elsewhere, the police also resorted to a lathi-charge on TPCC spokesperson Chamala Kiran Reddy. TPCC president Revanth Reddy posted a video of the lathi-charge on his official Twitter handle and condemned the attack by the police.
The police expectedly arrested most of the Congress leaders. Revanth Reddy was arrested and taken to the Bollaram police station, Bhatti Vikramarka and MLA Jagga Reddy to the Goshamahal police station, and MLA D Sridhar Babu and TPCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud to the Panjagutta police station.
