BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan today alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was conspiring to prevent the BCs from availing themselves of reservations.
He also accused the government of conspiring to create conflict among the SCs, STs and BCs through its GOs.
Addressing the media along with party MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav at Telangana Bhavan, he said that 42% reservation for BCs was impossible without including them in the Ninth Schedule, and that States could not increase reservations without completing the triple test. He said that even 23% reservation for BCs was impossible without completing the triple test.
Sravan said that it was clear that the Congress was deceiving the people despite clear directions from the Supreme Court.
He argued that firstly the caste census was conducted through the Planning Department instead of a Dedicated Commission, and that such a census was invalid as per the Supreme Court verdict.
He also alleged that the government had issued the GO without classifying BCs and failed the second test mandated by the court.
He added that the GOs were brought in when the Governor and the President already had pending bills in front of them to the same effect.
He also said that the GO issued for Panchayat elections would not stand legal scrutiny. He argued that courts had struck down increases in BC quotas in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka, and yet Revanth Reddy was issuing GOs in the same manner.
He said that the BRS had supported the move initially hoping that it would help achieve the objective, but it was now clear that the Congress was not sincere in its efforts at all, with Rahul Gandhi not even introducing a private bill in Parliament.
He said that during the KCR regime, the survey showed BCs constituted 51%, while the survey conducted by the Revanth government pegged the figure at 46%.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav too said that the Congress government was once again deceiving the BC community. He said that the Congress had promised 42% reservation in the Kamareddy Declaration but had failed to conduct a proper caste census.
He also criticised the government for "not making the Dedicated Commission's report public" till date, and expressed anger over the chaos created in the name of a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He claimed that none of the top Congress leaders attended the dharna, and expressed displeasure that nothing had been implemented even after two years. He demanded that the local body elections be held only after implementing 42% reservations, and warned the Congress that BC leaders and intellectuals would stage protests across all districts and paralyse the government if that did not happen.
He added that the BRS would meet the BC leadership of the State at Telangana Bhavan on Monday and announce an action plan.
