Telangana Congress Demands Arrest Of Baba Ramdev

Congress leader Shabbir Ali condemned Baba Ramdev for threatening to behead those who refused to say "Bharat Mata Ki Jai", and demanded his arrest immediately.
Hyderabad | 5th April 2016
Leader of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir condemned Baba Ramdev for threatening to behead those who refused to say "Bharat Mata Ki Jai", and demanded that the government arrest him immediately.

In a media statement, Shabbir Ali stated that Ramdev's statement was aimed at inciting communal hatred and violence in the country.

"If Baba Ramdev had any respect for the Constitution and the country's law, he wouldn't have issued such a provocative statement. This highly objectionable statement was issued in a Sadbhavna Sammelan - a peace meeting - organized by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He is clearly playing into the hands of the RSS and the BJP to create communal tension in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in five States," he said.

The Congress leader also criticised RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi for creating the controversy over the "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" slogan. He said that as per the Constitution, it was not compulsory for any Indian to chant any slogan, including Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Way back in 1986, the Supreme Court had given a clear ruling in this regard, he added.
