Congress Claims Government Bribing Contractors

Dubbing the Telangana government as "contractor-friendly", State Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy alleged that the government paid huge sums of money to works that were abandoned or stopped long ago.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Reddy said that on paper, the government had taken Rs. 520 crores from its treasury in the name of surveying the Dummugudem Tail Pond and an additional Rs. 395 crores was paid to 10 contractors to "start the work". But the works had not been started yet.

He also said that the government had paid additionally amounts of money as bribe to the Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar project contractors.

The Congress MLC demanded that the government order an inquiry from the vigilance department and a sitting judge of the High Court into the excess estimations on these projects, and also on other projects including Shivanna Sagar.
