The Telangana Congress Legislature Party on Friday demanded a probe into all the tenders brought in for the Mission Kakatiya water project.
Addressing the media at the CLP office, Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly leader Mohammad Ali Shabbir and deputy CLP leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy alleged that there were irregularities of massive proportions in the execution of the water project and some irrigation projects.
Sudhakar Reddy spoke on some of the irregularities in the tenders brought in for the projects. "The vigilance department raided the offices of two Mission Kakatiya engineers and found out that they had submitted fake bills for the materials that they had purchased for the construction of a portion of the project at Mulugu in the Warangal district," Reddy alleged. A further inquiry must be initiated to find out if any higher officials were involved in this, he demanded.
Shabbir Ali alleged that the State government had procured the tenders for the water project without preparing a Detailed Project Report, and that most of the tenders were fake. They were assigned to a bid difference of 0.1% to 0.3%, which led to the misappropriation of hundreds of crores of public money, he alleged.
He also demanded that the State government place all the tenders for Mission Kakatiya and the irrigation projects in the public domain, and produce all records pertaining to the same in the State Legislature for a detailed discussion.
Shabbir Ali reiterated that the Congress was not against the projects themselves, but only against the irregularities and misappropriation of public money.
