To make Telangana a power surplus State in the next 3 years, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, upon the request of BHEL Chairman and Managing Director B P Rao, has agreed to give an 800 MW plant at Kothagudem and a 1,080 MW plant at Manuguru on an MOU basis to BHEL, a Government of India undertaking, for construction on an EPC basis (Engineering Procurement and Construction).
The BHEL CMD, Director (Power) Atul Sobti, and Executive Directors Gopalakrishnan and Sriram, called on the Chief Minister on Tuesday at the State Secretariat.
The Chief Minister also directed Telangana State GENCO CMD D Prabhakar Rao to ensure generation of 6,000 MW in the next 3 years to make the State power surplus, and if necessary entrust the projects on MoU to BHEL.
He said that the execution needed to be time-bound and on-target.
The BHEL CMD assured the Chief Minister that the projects of 1,080 MW (4x270) would be executed within the next 24 months, and that the remaining would be completed within 3 years.
