The PRP is now officially supporting the idea of a united state, Chiranjeevi said at the party head office this morning. PRP chief Chiranjeevi has announced his decision to quite as MLA. In a press conference, he clarified his stand on the Telangana issue, saying that the PRP was indeed pro-Telangana when it was formed, but taking the views of an entire populace against separate statehood into account, the party was compelled to go with people’s wishes. He was under no pressure when he took the decision, he said.
With his statements, Chiranjeevi risks the resentment of politicians and party supporters who think he is backstabbing them, and the party is showing signs of a tumultuous split. Outside the PRP office, there’s some agitation, with T-supporters shouting slogans of Jai Telangana, and posters being strewn about. The police have made some arrests as well.
