Praja Rajyam Party founder, ex-MLA and aspiring champion of the United Andhra movement, Chiranjeevi, went to Vijayawada today to meet the fasting United Andhra leaders Devineni Uma and Lagadapati Rajagopal.
With Section 144 being in place in Vijayawada, the local cops tried to stop his pada-yatra (road-trip) to meet the leaders. An unrelenting Chiranjeevi sat down on the road in protest, and tension rose in the area. The cops took the easy way out and let him go.
After meeting the leaders and expressing solidarity, Chiranjeevi announced that he would participate in a relay fast (and so you got misled by the headline) on the 23rd in support of the movement to keep the state united, and also tour Amalapuram and other districts to further drum up activity for the movement.
