Over 67% voters exercised their franchise in the by-elections held for 7 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday.
With an 83.70% turnout, the highest polling rate was recorded in Kovvur seat of Nellore district. This was followed by Station Ghanpur with 75%, Mahbubnagar with 70%, Kamareddy with 68%, Nagarkunool with 65%, and Adilabad with 62%. 60% polling was recorded in Kollahpur seat.
Briefing the media, Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said that barring a few instances, the polling was, by and large, peaceful in all the constituencies.
Bhanwarlal said that elaborate arrangements were being made for the counting of votes on 21 March at 5 centres. He said that agents of candidates would be allowed to stay outside the strong room where Electronic Voting Machines were being kept till the day of counting.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy called upon Bhanwarlal with regard to arrangements for the counting of votes. (INN)
