BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today warned the State government against creating hurdles for the upcoming Ganesh idol immersion program in the Hussain Sagar lake in the city on the pretext of Supreme Court orders.
Speaking to media persons on the issue, he said that it was unfortunate that the ruling TRS-led State government was creating a tense atmosphere every year during the immersion of Ganesh idols on the pretext of environmental pollution.
"The devotees are forced to take permission from the revenue, police, fire and electricity departments to celebrate the festivities in public. Even after taking all these permissions, the authorities are creating hurdles for the Ganesh Nimajjanam festivities. The Chief Secretary of the State Somesh Kumar, who is notorious for violating court orders regularly, is showing the Supreme Court orders as an excuse to stall the immersion program. The government has been projecting the celebration of any Hindu festival as a law and order issue," he alleged.
He claimed that during the severe Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, too, the State government had allowed rallies by the Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival in the Old City. "We did not raise any objection when the government distributed almonds and pistachios to the Muslims. But at the same time, it had grossly neglected the people undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in the Gandhi Hospital," he said.
Sanjay alleged though the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi had made all the necessary arrangements for the nimajjanam, the government was not making any arrangements citing Supreme Court directions.
"We won't tolerate it if the government doesn't cooperate with the devotees in letting them immerse the Ganesh idols as per their convenience. We will take up the fight for nimajjanam to Pragathi Bhavan. The Hindu community is not afraid of KCR, who is trying to create a law and order situation to garner the votes of one particular community," he said, and added that the devotees would go ahead with the immersion in Hussain Sagar, come what may.
